While we have concerns (see below), Careers Plus Resumes, or as they are known by their abbreviated web address CPResumes.com, achieved a 3-star rating for three reasons in particular: affordability, writers' backgrounds, and guarantee.

Yes, the writers are all CPRWs (Certified Professional Resume Writers), as you would expect with service at this level. But each writer is also a former hiring manager. No one knows better what a hiring official is looking for on a resume than someone with a similar hiring background. So not only are you hiring a skilled writer, you're tapping an individual who has made executive-level hiring decisions in industry, and can bring that background to bear on your behalf. 

Regarding the guarantee, it's simply one of the stronger resume guarantees in the business: unlimited revisions for a full 90 days, and a partial refund if you don't land an interview within those 90 days. That's about as good as you'll see.

How It Works:

Determine which level of experience best fits: entry level (if you're just starting out), professional (if you're mid-career), or executive. There's a page for each, with upfront pricing and packages. Note: a package might include the resume with cover letter and post-interview thank you note. 

Place your order on their secure site. Complete their online questionnaire and upload/fax an existing resume, if you have one. You'll be assigned a resume writer who specializes most closely in your particular profession or discipline.

You'll be contacted by your writer, who will arrange a one-on-one phone consultation to gather more information and get to know you better. You can do that chat via email if you prefer (Note: we advise going with the phone interview). 

Your documents will be crafted and you'll receive a first draft via email within 24-48 hours. If everything is good, download the attachments (Word, PDF and ASCII file formats) and save them to your computer. If revisions are needed, you've got 90 days of free editing.  

Here's What We Liked:

• Extensive list of sample resumes are made available on the web site to give you an idea of quality of writing you can expect. We liked what we saw.
• 90-day guarantee includes assurance of an interview. Unlimited resume edits for a full 90 days, and some money back if you don't land an interview in that time.
• Pricing is extremely reasonable and up front.

Here's What We Didn't Like

Better Business Bureau notes a "pattern of complaints" for this company ranging from inattentive customer service to resumes not being delivered within the specified time frames. In fairness, one has to take into account a company's size and volume of transactions when considering customer complaints, and this is a sizable company that writes a lot of resumes. It's also worth noting that management has made overtures toward establishing procedures to more effectively resolve customer issues -- also reported by the BBB. That said, we remain concerned.

In summary, Careers Plus Resumes has some attractive features going for it: from an easy-to-navigate website to one of the best guarantees in the industry. And pricing is some of the most reasonable we've seen, given the quality of the product (as evidenced by the posted samples).
